“But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:6, NASB)
Most of us are in some sort of battle—right now.
… Battle for our children to turn back to the Lord
… Battle for our anxiety to go away
… Battle for our marriage to become enjoyable once again
… Battle for our health
The noises from worry, fear, and doubt can not only distract us from interceding for others but also hinder us from praying for ourselves and hearing God.
Jesus encourages us to take our battle into the secret place (Matthew 6:6). It’s in the secret place where the noises quiet to a peaceful hush and our minds become still. Our focus becomes sharp, and our doubt turns into fully trusting the One we are with—this is our secret place.
I call my secret place the “upper room.” It’s a space in my home above the garage.
This is the place I visit with the Lord each morning—to spend time in the quiet—before my day begins.
… I sit still with a cup of coffee. I soak in God’s Word and converse with Him about the things I’m battling. And, I intercede for others in need of prayer. Victory is won in this place!
Where is your secret place?
If you don’t have one, I invite you to ask God where you can meet Him in the secret. And remember… when you seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13-14).
Lord, I need You to meet me in the secret place, where I can be enveloped by Your presence. Hear the cry of my heart and minister to my soul. My reward is Your love and presence, Lord. Thank you for hearing me. You always do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
